Road-tripping across Ireland has been a dream of mine and when the opportunity arose for such a journey, I jumped at the chance. With only 3 days and 4 nights to circumvent the island, my travel buddy and I made a mad dash to the Dingle Penninsula (between Kilkenny and Galway) to take in the crashing waves, rolling hills and laid back atmosphere. Inundated with raw untouched nature and spectacular views of the Atlantic, we thoroughly enjoyed the dramatic and unique drive between Kilkenny and Ballyvaughn.
Unfortunately, we did not make it to Galway...the rain, limestone rock and narrow roads had another plan. After leaving the Cliffs of Moher (or the Cliffs of Insanity :-), we crashed outside of Ballyvaughn. Hitting a limestone wall head on with my side of the car and flipping as well as rolling before coming to a stop perpendicular to the road. We were fortunate to be rescued by a few lovely and generous Ballyvaughn residents. I suppose we had the "Luck of the Irish" on our side that night and were able to walk away without critical injuries. Despite our misfortune, I would highly recommend a road trip around the Emerald Isle and a visit to the quaint Ballyvaughn!
